The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The DofE is a programme of three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, lead to Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

It can be a challenge but it’s enjoyable and rewarding. The idea is to give you opportunities to develop personally and it’s accessible to any young person who wants to take part.

What’s in it for me?

You get to:

  • develop new skills
  • do an award that is focused on you
  • improve confidence

How old do I have to be?

If you are in the school year that you turn 14 years and have not yet reached your 25th Birthday you can enrol onto the DofE.

  • BRONZE - In the school year you turn 14 years +
  • SILVER - In the school year you turn 15 years +
  • GOLD - 16 years + 

What do I do?

There are 5 sections you must complete, under which there are loads of different options of what you can be involved in which come under the following sections:

  • physical – Improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activity
  • skills – Developing practical social skills and personal interests
  • volunteering – Undertaking service to individuals or the community
  • expedition – Planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey
  • residential (Gold only) – Shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days and 4 nights

Where do I get involved?

 Bracknell Forest Youth service holds the License for running the DofE in all the secondary schools in Bracknell Forest

If you attend any of the schools listed above please contact the Coordinator to get information about their programme and how to enrol with them.


 If you do not attend any of these schools or do not wish to follow their DofE programme and live in Bracknell Forest, you may register as an ‘Independent Participant.’


 To enrol onto the programme as an ‘independent participant’ you need to complete the DofE enrolment form and return with the enrolment fee, (see form for address) you will be contacted to collect your participant handbook and given a date to attend a DofE induction session.


After this support with your DofE programme will be provided via telephone, email and during a monthly drop in session in one of the Youth Service Buildings in Bracknell Forest.
