MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING
During the Half term break in June the Youth Council were involved in 10 hours of mental health training.
Lisa, a youth worker from the ‘The ZONE’ in Bracknell and ‘The SPOT’ in Sandhurst, delivered the training. The training was very interactive with activities and group discussions.
The members learnt about the different forms of mental illness in more depth such as:
- Anxiety (both general and social)
- PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
- OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
- Phobias and Depression.
We explored what the after effects could be if a person didn’t talk about their problems, examples such as bottling up anger which could lead to the person becoming more frustrated and in turn cause people around them to be frustrated were discussed.
The information we learnt during the training sessions will contribute to our campaign of raising awareness of mental health and to help remove the stigma of mental health illness.
We are currently producing a presentation, containing sections of the information, aimed towards the year 6s to allow the younger generations to become more aware of what mental health is.
